MPEG-1 standard provide a video resolution of 352-by-240 at 30 frames per second (fps). This produces video quality slightly below the quality of conventional VCR videos. MPEG-2 offers resolutions of 720x480 and 1280x720 at 60 fps, with full CD-quality audio. This is sufficient for all the major TV standards, including NTSC, and even HDTV. MPEG-2 is used by DVD-ROMs. Windows AVI files. Windows AVI (Audio Video Interleaved) file is a sound and motion picture file that conforms to the Microsoft Windows Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF) specification. DivX video files. Best Media Player can play all DivX encoded files, the DivX files (with a .divx extension) uses lossy MPEG-4 compression, where quality is balanced against file size for utility. Xvid video files. Xvid is another video codec library following the MPEG-4 standard, it is free, in contrast with the DivX codec. WMV video and ASF video format. ASF is an extensible file format designed to store synchronized multimedia data. It supports data delivery over a wide variety of networks and protocols while still proving suitable for local playback. Quicktime video (.mov). Quicktime is available for Mac OS X and Windows operating systems, and is distributed free of charge. The ".mov" is file extension for the QuickTime multimedia file format.
